Policy, Accountability, and Student Success

Investing in the Regional Workforce through Higher Education and Training

Working in collaboration with the Maricopa Community Colleges, Decision Theater, and the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, Dr. Kisker managed the development of an interactive, data-driven presentation focused on how the state of Arizona and the Maricopa Community College District can build the capacity necessary to meet the need for trained workers over the next decade. In early 2016 Dr. Kisker led a series of interactive presentations in Decision Theater's unique, immersive environment to Arizona's legislative, education, and business leaders.

A detailed description of the presentation, written by the Arizona Education News Service, can be found here.

Statewide Accountability Coordination for the Arizona Community Colleges

Working through the California Community College Collaborative at UC Riverside (www.c4.ucr.edu), Dr. Kisker acts as Statewide Accountability Coordinator for Arizona's community colleges and provides strategic advice on the implementation of the colleges' Long-Term Strategic Vision. Dr. Kisker also provides guidance on the enactment of performance-based funding for Arizona's community colleges and leads the annual process of collecting and reporting data on community college student outcomes.

Utilizing Data to Improve Student Success at the California State University

Working through C4, consult with staff at the California State University (CSU) Chancellor's Office on issues related to student persistence and attainment. Identify challenges and opportunities related to student success at the 23 CSU campuses, prepare data-driven reports for university presidents and Chancellor's Office staff, and engage in site visits at select CSU campuses to assist in efforts to improve student persistence and attainment.

Developing a Long-Term Strategic Vision for Arizona Community Colleges

Working through C4, Dr. Kisker led efforts to develop a strategic vision for Arizona community colleges. The resulting document, titled "Arizona Community Colleges: Long-Term Strategic Vision," takes into account the challenges and opportunities faced by the state's two-year colleges in areas of college access and awareness, developmental education, transfer and baccalaureate production, and workforce development and vocational education. The Strategic Vision can be accessed here.

Statewide Coordination for Arizona Community Colleges

Working through C4, Dr. Kisker made recommendations to the Arizona Community College Presidents' Council for the future structure, roles, and responsibilities of a statewide coordinating body in Arizona. As part of this project, Dr. Kisker researched and presented a report on the role of business and industry in community college governance and coordination. This project was supported by a grant from Arizona's Lumina Foundation Making Opportunities Affordable team.
